If you are in crisis

My True Bible Companion is not an emergency service and cannot summon help. In the United States, call or text 988 at any hour to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If there is immediate danger to life, call 911. If a caller tells Jeremiah that they are thinking of ending their life, Jeremiah responds with care and directs them to the 988 Lifeline — but please do not wait for that. Reach the Lifeline directly.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I get the app?

On the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android. The download is free; First Light gives you your first 5 minutes at no charge, and the paid plans are optional.

What exactly is this?

It is a voice app. You speak with Jeremiah, an automated biblical companion who answers questions about Scripture, reads it to you word for word and offers comfort. There is no reading and no typing — you talk, and Jeremiah answers aloud. Jeremiah is not a person and will tell you so if you ask. He does not pray; if you ask, he will read a psalm or the Lord's Prayer aloud, and he will point you to a pastor when you want to pray with a person.

Which translation does Jeremiah use?

The King James Version, and only the King James Version. Jeremiah's knowledge base is the complete KJV text — 66 books, 1,189 chapters, 31,102 verses — stored verse by verse. No other translation and no paraphrase is used.

Can Jeremiah make up a verse?

Jeremiah is instructed to find a verse in the King James text before quoting it, to read it word for word, and to say the book, chapter and verse aloud. He must not recite from memory, must not paraphrase and present it as a quotation, and must not combine parts of different verses. If a passage cannot be found, he says so plainly rather than guessing.

No automated system is perfect. Look up any reference in your own Bible if it matters to you, and take questions of doctrine to your own minister or church.

Are my calls recorded?

No. Your conversations are not recorded. There is no audio file, no stored recording and no saved transcript. Your voice is processed live, only for as long as the conversation takes, and then it is gone. The voice platform is set to keep basic call metadata only — when the session started and ended, how long it ran, and the minutes it used for billing — and nothing about what was said.

Your phone number is not exposed to the voice service, and no personal number of ours is exposed to you. The Privacy Policy sets this out in full.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — First Light. It gives you 5 minutes with Jeremiah at no charge, and it does not ask for a card or any other payment method.

First Light is a one-time trial, not a monthly free allowance. The 5 minutes are granted once, when you verify your phone number. They do not reset at the start of a month, they do not renew, and once they are used they are not replaced. To keep the offer fair, it is one trial per verified phone number, so a number that has already had a trial cannot claim another.

When your free minutes run out, nothing is charged and nothing renews automatically. You simply choose a plan below if you would like to carry on.

How do minutes work?

First Light is a single grant of 5 minutes. Each paid plan then includes a set number of minutes each month:

The four tiers
TierPriceMinutesEffective rate
First LightFree, no payment method5, one time only (once per verified phone number)—
Daily Bread$9.99 / month25 each monthabout $0.40 / minute
Still Waters$19.99 / month60 each monthabout $0.33 / minute
Lamp and Light$29.99 / month100 each monthabout $0.30 / minute

On a paid plan, minutes are credited at the start of each billing month, and the length of each session is deducted from your balance. Unused minutes do not carry over into the next month. You can see your remaining balance in the app.

What happens when my minutes run out?

Voice sessions stop until your plan renews at the start of your next billing month. If you would rather not wait, you can, from inside the app:

  • Upgrade to a higher plan — more minutes each month; or
  • Buy additional minutes as a one-time purchase.

Both are purchased through Apple In-App Purchase or Google Play Billing, inside the app. There is no way to buy minutes on this website.

How do I pay? Can I pay on the website?

No — there is no checkout on this website and we never take card details. Subscriptions are sold only inside the app, through Apple In-App Purchase on iPhone or Google Play Billing on Android. Apple or Google is the merchant, bills your existing store account, and handles the payment entirely.

How do I cancel?

Cancel through your store account settings. We cannot cancel a store subscription on your behalf.

On iPhone

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Tap My True Bible Companion.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

On Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon, top right.
  3. Tap Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions.
  4. Tap My True Bible Companion.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and confirm.

Cancelling stops future renewals. You keep your minutes for the rest of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription — you must cancel in the store settings.

When am I charged, and how do I stop it renewing?

Your subscription renews automatically each month at the price shown, and your store account is charged within the 24 hours before the current period ends. To avoid the next charge, turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the period ends, using the cancellation steps above.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple and Google, not by us — they are the merchants for in-app purchases, so we have no ability to issue or reverse a charge.

If a refund is refused and you believe something went wrong on our side, write to us and we will look into it.

I bought a subscription but the app says I have none

Make sure you are signed in to the app with the same account you used before, and that your device is signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account that made the purchase, then use Restore Purchases in the app. If it still does not appear, email us the account email address and the date of purchase and we will sort it out.

The call sounded broken, or Jeremiah could not hear me

Check that the app has permission to use your microphone (iPhone: Settings → My True Bible Companion → Microphone; Android: Settings → Apps → My True Bible Companion → Permissions → Microphone), and try a stronger Wi-Fi or mobile signal. If a session was unusable, tell us the date and roughly the time and we will look at the minutes on your account.

What do you know about me?

Your email address, your phone number, your purchase and subscription status, how many minutes you have used, and basic call metadata — the timing and duration of each session. Not the content of your conversations, because none of it is recorded or transcribed.

The app also uses Google Analytics for Firebase, which collects app usage and device and diagnostic data — for example which screens are opened, whether a session started successfully, the app version, and the device model and operating system. We use it to see how the app is working, not to build an advertising profile of you. The Privacy Policy lists everything.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from inside the app, or by making a request on our account deletion page. That page explains what is deleted, what is kept for tax records, and how long it takes.

Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription — cancel that separately in your Apple or Google store settings first, or you may continue to be billed.

Is Jeremiah a pastor or a counsellor?

No. Jeremiah is an automated companion, not a pastor, minister, counsellor, therapist, doctor or lawyer, and does not give pastoral, medical, mental-health, legal or financial advice. He treats every Christian tradition with respect, does not criticise any church or denomination, and will not tell you where you stand with God. For pastoral care, please speak with your own minister or church.

What language does Jeremiah speak?

Jeremiah converses in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, Hindi, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic. Scripture itself is the one exception, and it is deliberate: verses are always read in the original King James English and never translated. He names the reference in your language, reads the verse in King James English, and then explains it in your language.

Why do you need my phone number?

Two reasons. It signs you in securely, and it is how we make sure the First Light free trial is given once per person rather than once per e-mail address someone can create in a minute. It is not used for marketing, it is never sold, and it is not exposed to the voice service or to any other user.

Is there a minimum age?

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and the app is intended for adults. See the Terms of Use.
